Brazil Enforces Visa Requirement for Australian, Canadian, and U.S. Nationals

Brazil has officially reinstated the visa requirement for citizens of Australia, Canada, and the United States, effective April 10, 2025. Nationals from these countries are now required to obtain an Electronic Visa (eVisa) to enter Brazil for tourism, business, sports, artistic performances, or even airport transit. This decision introduces new administrative procedures, costs, and potential delays for affected travelers.

Nationals of Australia, Canada, and the United States must apply for the eVisa through Brazil’s Electronic Visa (eVisa) system and pay a fee of USD 80.90. The eVisa’s validity will vary based on the applicant’s nationality, potentially being issued for five or ten years, generally allowing stays of up to 90 days per entry. Travelers can request an extension from the Federal Police in Brazil for a maximum cumulative stay of up to 180 days per year. Approved applicants will receive a PDF of the eVisa via email, which must be printed and presented when boarding their flight and upon arrival in Brazil. It’s also advised to keep a digital copy on a mobile device for easy access. While the Senate voted against the measure, the House of Representatives has yet to make a final decision, so the requirement remains in effect. Travelers should stay informed and consult with immigration professionals when planning trips to Brazil.
