China Expands Visa-Free Entry: More Countries, Expanded Activities

Mainland China is expanding its visa-free entry policy to include more countries and allow for a broader range of activities. Effective November 30, 2024, citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Japan, Latvia, Malta, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, and Romania can enter China without a visa for up to 30 days. This is for purposes including business, tourism, family visits, or transit. Furthermore, as of June 1, 2025, this visa exemption will extend to nationals of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay, valid until May 31, 2026. The policy update increases the total number of countries eligible for visa-free entry to 38.

My insight: This is a positive development, as it broadens the scope and duration of visa-free stays, facilitating increased business and tourism opportunities.
